Less than one week after SDL (San Jose, CA) went public, Spectra-Physics (Mountain View, CA) filed a lawsuit against SDL concerning a technology-transfer and license agreement signed by SDL, Spectra-Physics, and Xerox in 1983 (SDL was originally founded as a joint venture between Spectra-Physics and Xerox). Among other things, the complaint seeks a declaration that Spectra-Physics` rights under the technology agreement are in full force and effect and that Spectra-Physics is entitled to damages for breach of that agreement by SDL. The suit also requests a court order requiring SDL to turn over to Spectra-Physics all SDL technology subject to the agreement.
