Fiberoptic sensors operate inside Southern California Edison power plant boiler

Fiberoptic sensors have recently been installed in a Southern California Edison (SCE) naturalgasfired power plant as structural and thermal monitors. Multiple strain and temperature sensors have been mounted on a largediameter steam pipe in a plant boiler operating at approximately 1100°F and are being continuously interrogated by a computercontrolled optical timedomain reflectometer.
