Australia's largest submarine cable completed
Australia Japan Cable (Hamilton, Bermuda) has announced connection of a US$500 million cable that spans more than 12,000 km between Australia and Japan, via Guam. The newly completed 640-Gbit/s capacity fiberoptic submarine cable employs a "collapsed ring" configuration and was expected to complete testing in December 2001. Major shareholders in the project include Telstra (Sydney, Australia), WorldCom (Clinton, MS), Japan Telecom (Tokyo, Japan), NTT Com (Tokyo, Japan), Teleglobe (Montreal, Que., Canada), and Concert (the worldwide AT&T and BT alliance). The cable has landing points in Australia (Oxford Falls and Paddington, NSW), Guam (Tanguisson and Tumon Bay), and Japan (Shima and Maruyama).
