The German manufacturer of specialty glasses, Mainz-based Schott Glaswerke, has bought the British fiberoptics manufacturer Eurotec Optical Fibres (Doncaster, England) to strengthen Schott`s presence in Europe`s growing fiberoptics market. The deal bolsters Schott`s capacity to make fiberoptic waveguides, components, and lighting systems used for decorative illumination, precision illumination, and detecting in medical and industrial applications. Buy-out figures have not been disclosed; however, the acquisition gives Schott its second production facility in the UK--to be called Eurotec Fibre Optics. Eurotec had annual sales of about $4.6 million in its fiscal year 1992/93 and employs about 90 people.
