In an acquisition estimated at $135 million, Siecor (Hickory, NC) will purchase certain fiberopticcomponent businesses from Northern Telecom (NT, Toronto, Canada). The product portfolio consists of a variety of devices that are used in connection, protection, and opticalfiber management systems of centraloffice switching centers and outsideplant networks. Joseph D. Hicks, Siecor president and CEO, said that the acquisition is in line with company strategy to expand its presence in the fiberoptic hardware and equipment markets. The product lines to be acquired are manufactured by NT in Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico.
