    Polarization controller

    A polarization controller for fiber systems, the PolaRite, converts an arbitrary polarized input to a desired polarization. The controller has no intrinsic loss, no intrinsic backreflection, and simple construction, unlike bulk phase retarders. The system also has the advantages over fiber-coil controllers of a smaller size (1 ¥ 1 ¥ 4 in.), easy in-line insertion, and fewer adjustments to make (two control knobs rather than three).
