Siemens aims at large SONET and WDM markets

Siemens Telecom Networks, formerly Siemens Stromberg-Carlson, and Positron Fiber Systems Corp. entered a joint development agreement that allows Siemens to offer SONET connectivity. Siemens will integrate Positron`s Osiris SONET technology in the Siemens MultiLink access product family.

Siemens Telecom Networks (Boca Raton, FL), formerly Siemens Stromberg-Carlson, and Positron Fiber Systems Corp. (Mt. Laurel, NJ) entered a joint development agreement that allows Siemens to offer SONET connectivity. Siemens will integrate Positron's Osiris SONET technology in the Siemens MultiLink access product family. In related news, Siemens Telecom Networks formed a Transport Networks Business Unit specifically to go after the North American transport market. The group, officially started October 1, is building a staff and leveraging resources to compete with incumbent vendors of SONET terminals and wavelength-division-multiplexing equipment.
