Ciena expands Japans national network capacity by a factor of four

Nov. 1, 1997
Japan Telecom Co. (Tokyo, Japan) and Ciena Corp. (Linthicum, MD) signed an agreement to install Ciena`s MultiWave Sentry dense-wavelength-division-multiplexing system on several portions of Japan`s national fiberoptic network. The system will be installed in early 1998 and will enable Japan Telecom to expand service in the Tokyo-Osaka-Hiroshima corridor by a factor of four without requiring the installation of new optical fibers or synchronous-digital-hierarchy regenerators.
