Fiber sensors

Aug. 1, 1996
A line of spectrometer-coupled fiber sensors monitor color changes in indicator dyes to measure pH or toxic metals. Systems consist of a single or dual PC-card-mounted spectrometer, tungsten halogen light source, transmission or reflection film probe, and one or more reactive polymer films. The pH sensors are reversible, and each one responds over a 3-4-pH range. The sensors for toxic metals can be soaked in EDTA to stri¥off bound metals.
