Optoelectronic-components market to increase steadily through 2004
The North American consumption of optoelectronic components, including transmitters, receivers, and optical amplifiers, is expected to reach $2.8 billion by 1999, for an average annual growth rate of 22%. According to analysts at ElectroniCast Corp. (San Mateo, CA), the growth will then slow to a still-healthy 16% per year during the period from 1999 through 2004. Production, meanwhile, should increase from $973 million to $2.7 billion by 2004, with North American production lagging behind consumption for the entire period.
