Optical Frequency and Timing Distribution System for ESA Deep Space Tracking Stations
Menhir Photonics successfully deployed and tested the second-generation Optical Frequency & Timing Distribution System at ESA’s European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) in Darmstadt. The system leverages MENHIR-1550 lasers renowned for their ultra-low noise and 24/7 reliability, enabling precise synchronization across multiple deep-space tracking antennas—a critical capability for supporting satellite communication operations. This success will extend deployment to ESA’s global tracking stations in Spain, Australia, and Argentina, further enhancing the agency’s timing and frequency distribution infrastructure.
