LED403Med

March 10, 2014
One component, LED curable system for high performance bonding, sealing, coating and encapsulation

Key Features

  • Meets USP Class VI and ISO 10993-5
  • Resists a variety of sterilization methods
  • Not oxygen inhibited
  • Can cure up to 1/8 inch thick

Master Bond LED403Med is a one part polymer adhesive that cures fully upon exposure to a 405 nm wavelength generated by an LED source, without requiring any exposure to UV light. This higher viscosity, but flowable system can be used for bonding, sealing, coating and encapsulation. LED403Med requires no mixing and will cure rapidly, with the speed of cure dependent upon the intensity of the light, the thickness of the layer and the distance of the light source from the material being cured. Realistically, the light intensity should be 1-4 watts/cm2. Power is an important consideration in curing these kinds of systems. With a good light source, effective curing can be achieved in 30-45 seconds when bonding. Thicker sections may take a little longer. Also, LED403Med is not oxygen inhibited.

This material bonds well to a wide variety of substrates including glass, metals, composites, and many plastics, especially polycarbonates and acrylics. Once cured, LED403Med has excellent dimensional stability, superb electrical insulation properties and very good chemical resistance to water, many acids, bases and oils. LED403Med resists sterilization methods, including gamma radiation, EtO and various chemical sterilants. This system has excellent optical clarity and light transmission properties, with a very slight amber tint. Additionally, the formulation is solvent-free. LED403Med fully passes USP Class VI biocompatibility and ISO 10993-5 cytotoxicity requirements. This product has been used in imaging devices, diagnostic equipment, surgical instruments, and optical systems.

Product Advantages

  • One component, no mixing
  • LED light curing, UV not needed
  • Good dimensional stability
  • Low shrinkage upon cure
  • Excellent resistance to many kinds of sterilization
