Avago introduces green auto-focus flash LED for digital still cameras
January 31, 2007, San Jose, CA--Avago Technologies has introduced a high-brightness green auto focus auxiliary flash light emitting diode (LED) to assist the auto focusing function in digital still cameras used in low ambient light conditions.
With a footprint about the size of a pencil eraser, Avago's ASMT-FG10 provides designers of digital still cameras with a low-cost alternative to conventional infrared (IR) auxiliary auto focus solutions. This compact green LED lamp is easy to install, offers the highest brightness and most compact package in the industry, and targets digital camera designers who need a cost-effective solution that can perform auto focusing functions in dark environments.
Digital still cameras have twice the sensitivity when responding to the color green than other colors, due to the availability of more photo diodes allocated for green in each pixel. The ASMT-FG10 surface mount (SMT) LED allows designers of digital cameras to package far greater functionality per square-inch of printed circuit board space while achieving superior performance in terms of brightness and power consumption. In addition, this SMT LED package simplifies the assembly process.
The ASMT-FG10 green (530 nm) indium gallium nitride (InGaN) dome LED lamp uses an un-tinted, non-diffused lens to provide high luminous intensity within a narrow radiation pattern. It also incorporates an encapsulated LED chip on an axial lead frame to form a molded epoxy lamp package with six bent leads for surface mounting. The InGaN material used in this LED lamp has a very high luminous efficiency and is capable of producing high light output over a wide range of drive currents. The narrow angle SMT lamp package is ideal for digital cameras that require long distance illumination and a narrow beam pattern.
