SensL Matrix silicon photomultiplier detector has largest detection area, highest channel count

Nov. 19, 2009
The SensL Matrix detector (SPMMatrix) is the largest area, highest channel count, silicon-photomultiplier detector on the market today. It consists of a 61.28 x 61.28 mm silicon photomultiplier detection area using SensL's SPMArray4 detectors mounted onto a matrix board which provides bias to each array.

The detector incorporates everything that is needed to image with silicon photomultipliers into a single product. Two analog boards, each containing 16 analog channels, provide amplification, discrimination, and energy sampling. The SPMMatrix is also supplied with an FPGA board which implements cross-wire logic time stamping and readout/buffering events to the USB or openPET bus. It also contains SensL's power board to provide the necessary bias to the arrays. Applications include PET camera, radiation imaging, nuclear and particle physics, mammography, gamma camera, SPECT, x-ray, and scintillation crystal readout.

PRESS RELEASE

SensL launch the first large area fully integrated imager based on Silicon Photomultiplier technology

(Cork, Ireland, 19 November, 2009) The low light detector solutions provider, SensL, announces the launch of the SPMMatrix, the world's first Silicon Photomultiplier based imaging system for applications such as nuclear medicine, homeland security and high energy physics.

What is unique about the SPMMatrix is that SensL have incorporated everything that is needed to image with Silicon Photomultipliers into a single product. Along with 256 Silicon Photomultiplier channels, SensL have included a full readout and data acquisition solution.

With better uniformity than a PMT based systems, magnetic insensitivity and simplified electronics through cross-wire technology, the SPMMatrix is a great way for both research and OEM customers alike to evaluate and design-in Silicon Photomultipliers for real world applications.

Commenting on the release of the SPMMatrix, Padraig Hughes, SPM Product Manager at SensL stated, "I am delighted with this product which we have launched in response to customer demands for large area, pixellated detection systems. With the increased demand for our array products, the SPMMatrix represents an ideal evaluation platform to prototype gamma, SPECT, and PET systems using SensL's Silicon Photomultiplier technology."

The SPMMatrix is supplied with everything that is needed to get started working with large area Silicon Photomultiplier technology and it is all included in a convenient briefcase size carrying case. More information on the SPMMatrix can be found at www.SensL.com.
