Multifiber backplane connector system

The MPAK multifiber two-piece connector system consists of a female connector and a male jack with 6 MT-style ferrules for a total of 48, 72, or 144 optical fibers, depending on the ferrule combination. Designed to meet Telcordia GR-1435-CORE requirements, the system includes nickel-plated cast-zinc housings that shield and isolate EMI. Single-mode and multimode versions are available.

Phase modulator

A new phase modulator for optical coherence microscopy (OCM) is based on a piezoelectric stack. The balanced mounting of the stack eliminates resonances attributed to the support structure and allows modulation frequencies up to several hundred KHz with a pure piston-like movement. The unit fits in a 1-in. mirror mount and has a 6.4-mm clear aperture.

Modular alignment system

The new AutoAlign MODAL is a modular system for performing alignment and metrology of fiberoptic components, including planar waveguides, AWGs, fiber collimators, and other devices. 350-mW UV laser

The Vanguard 350-HMD 355 is a frequency-tripled, modelocked Nd:YVO4 laser with a pulse repetition of 80 MHz. The laser is a solid-state alternative for applications currently using water-cooled UV ion lasers. Operating from 110- or 220-V single-phase power, the laser delivers low-noise, near-diffraction-limited TEM00 output. The laser uses a saturable Bragg reflector to automatically operate with passively modelocked output.

Voice coil actuator

The model LA100-90-001 is a cylindrical voice coil linear actuator with a total stroke of 2.0 in., a continuous stall force of 290 lb and a peak-force rating of 550 lb. It is a two-terminal, hysteresis-free, cog-free, direct-drive linear servo with infinite position sensitivity. Applications include vibration control, seismology, die drawing, and training simulators.

CMOS area camera

The DALSTAR 1M75-SA CMOS area camera is a small-body, "stop action" (SA) camera. It has a one megapixel CMOS image sensor with a global nonrolling shutter capable of 75 f/s at full resolution and 100,000 f/s with windowing. The camera utilizes LINLOG technology for an intrascene dynamic range of up to 120 dB. X-ray analytical microscope

Laser-scanning sensor

The A700 sensor allows seam tracking on shiny surfaces, scanning a high-intensity laser spot across the joint. The sensor looks slightly ahead of the weld torch while an on-board linear camera, scanned in sync, captures a 3-D cross section of the joint that the system software uses to determine its exact position before and during the weld. The sensor is designed for use in automated welding machines.

A new C-band erbium-doped 80-µm fiber, EDFC-980-HP-80, is designed for use in components that require a tighter bend radii for compact packaging. The fiber can be powered with 980- or 1480-nm pumps. Utilizing a proprietary solution-doping technology, the fiber has a peak absorption near 1530 nm of 6.0 ± 1.0-dB meter, a cutoff wavelength of 920 ± 50 nm and a typical NA of 0.23.

UV light source

A programmable feedback UV light source provides stable UV irradiation from a quartz halogen lamp. Motor driver

The INS20 NanoDrive Series unipolar 2-phase/4-phase motor driver provides maximum equiangular nanoresolution of 200,000 steps per revolution. A new series of fast-shrinking fiberoptic splice protectors can be installed in a conventional oven in half the time taken for conventional protectors. This is achieved by increasing the shrinking rate of the outer tubing, having a higher freeze temperature for the adhesive liner, and reducing the thermal mass.
