The Optoelectronics Division (OED) of Siemens Components Inc. (Cupertino, CA) has agreed to assume the manufacture of optically coupled solid-state relays formerly made by AT&T Microelectronics (Berkeley Heights, NJ). The acquisition has its roots in a 1994 Siemens/AT&T joint development agreement for solid-state relays in which Siemens developed packaging and AT&T assembled relays and manufactured the silicon photodetectors used in the devices. Under the new agreement, AT&T will continue to supply components to Siemens (OED), which will handle relay packaging, assembly, and marketing. Assembly operations will move from the AT&T Bangkok location to the Siemens plant in Penang, Malaysia.
