The TIEDXX series of high-speed photodiodes operates in the reverse-voltage avalanche region just below the devices` breakdown voltage. This results in a photocurrent signal gain of a magnitude dependent on the reverse voltage and improves the signal-to-noise ratio for many optical receivers. The TIED57 and 58 have 0.010- or 0.030-in. active-area diameters and are hermetically sealed in flat-window, three-lead TO-18 packages. Applications include LANs, rangefinders, low-light detectors for astronomy, and high-speed medical imaging.
