Chopper-free detectors

Photovoltaic infrared detectors based on HgCdZnTe exceed the performance of traditional PbSe and InSb devices. Because the detectors require no electrical bias and have no flicker noise, they can be used to measure continuous events without a chopper. The slowest of the devices can detect at rates of more than 15 MHz. Sensitivity of the detectors is near the theoretical limit.
