InGaAs APDs

Dec. 1, 1996
A series of InGaAs avalanche photodiodes (APDs) is available for integration into SONET OC-3, OC-12, and OC-48 receivers. The detectors come in a series of sizes, ranging from 30 mm in diameter to 200 µm in diameter (only smaller sizes would be used for communications). The 50-µm avalanche photodiode has a dark current of 4 nA at gain of 10 and operates at a speed of more than 1.5 GHz.
