Although the end of the year can be a crazy time, it is often a time of reflection. In the ever-evolving world of technology, such reflection usually serves as an opportunity to take stock of all the evolutions and innovations that have transpired in the past 12 months.
It’s in this vein that our Senior Technical Editor John Wallace examines what he identified as the year’s top 20 stories in photonics and optoelectronics technology. He highlights the stories covering the biggest splashes across each category of technology we cover at Laser Focus World, including optics, lasers, detectors, imaging systems, fiber optics, spectroscopy, software, positioning equipment, and instrumentation (see article).
Having spent the past few decades covering technology, I have always found December an exciting time to apply those reflections to formulate predictions of what’s on the horizon. How will all those innovations positively impact other industries? What challenges will they solve as customers apply them to new applications? What remaining challenges present new opportunities for industry engineers? And, where will the next innovations occur?
Answering these questions is our goal at Laser Focus World. We are focused on digging deep to find the real stories, and ultimately serve as your primary source for the latest information on advances within photonics and optics. In the year ahead, we are also determined to further explore the applications. We are excited to tell your story!
If you have a story to tell, whether its current research, an ongoing evolution, or a unique application of photonics or optics technology, let’s connect. Send me an e-mail ([email protected]) or reach out on LinkedIn (linkedin.com/in/pfretty).
I would also like to encourage you to register for our annual Lasers & Photonics Marketplace Seminar taking place in San Francisco, CA in January 2022. We have an amazing lineup of speakers eager to share their wisdom and insights about the future of photonics. Editor at Large Conard Holton previews the upcoming event in the latest Business Forum column (see article). It is truly a must-attend event.
I hope you will be able to join us in San Francisco.
