OCTOBER 16, 2008 -- T-Ray Science, Inc., (Vancouver, BC, Canada) has filed for provisional patent protection with the U.S. Patent and Trade Mark Office on a dual-mode terahertz spectroscopy and imaging system, and a critical component of that system. The technology lays a foundation for development of portable biomedical scanners devices useful in doctor's offices skin-care clinics, etc. T-Ray reportedly holds licenses to the only two dual-mode THz spectroscopy systems in the world.

OCTOBER 16, 2008 -- T-Ray Science, Inc., (Vancouver, BC, Canada) has filed for provisional patent protection with the U.S. Patent and Trade Mark Office on a dual-mode THz spectroscopy and imaging system, and a device for carrying a plurality of photoconductive antennas.

T-Ray says its THz spectroscopy and imaging system is only the second dual mode spectroscopy system in the world, and that it holds an exclusive patent license from MIT for rights to the first such system.

The company notes that its antenna-carrying device is a critical component of THz imaging systems. It is essentially a chip holder that carries up to four THz photoconductive antennas used for generating and detecting THz radiation. A further innovation is that the T-Ray chip holder with its THz chips has dual-mode capabilities, with the ability to work in either pulsed or continuous-wave THz systems. T-Ray will be able to use the chip holder in its own dual-mode system, and to market the product as a critical component in other THz systems for a wide variety of applications.

"This platform technology also forms the foundation for the future development of portable scanning devices that can be used in medical offices, skin care clinics and other non-hospital locations," says T-Ray President and CEO Thomas Braun, adding that the technology "represents ground-breaking technological advances in THz research."
