• Rigaku acquires BaySpec handheld Raman products, forms new division

    Rigaku Americas Corporation has acquired handheld Raman spectroscopy technology from BaySpec, which targets chemical identification and composition analyzers for medical diagnostics, counterfeit drug detection and food contaminant detection, among many other applications.

    Rigaku Americas Corporation (The Woodlands, TX) has acquired handheld Raman spectroscopy technology from BaySpec (San Jose, CA), which targets chemical identification and composition analyzers for medical diagnostics, counterfeit drug detection and food contaminant detection, among many other applications.

    Stemming from the acquisition, the company has formed a new division, Rigaku Raman Technologies Inc., for R&D, engineering, production, marketing and distribution. Led by Hal Grodzins as president and CEO, the new division will be co-located in San Jose, CA, and The Woodlands, TX. Initial offerings will comprise the FirstGuard and Xantus series product lines, covering sample excitation wavelengths of 532, 785 and 1064 nm.
