Zeiss makes acquisition for akinetic swept-source laser technology in OCT

June 20, 2017
Carl Zeiss Meditec is interested in OLE's Insight Akinetic Swept Laser technology, which enables OCT images without artifacts.

With the goal of developing and producing a commercial akinetic swept-source laser for ophthalmology and its associated optical coherence tomography (OCT) system elements, Carl Zeiss Meditec (Dublin, CA) has acquired 52% of the shares in Insight Ophthalmic Laser Engines (OLE; Lafayette, CO).

Carl Zeiss Meditec is interested in OLE's Insight Akinetic Swept Laser technology, which does not have any form of movement in the tuning mechanism. This enables OCT images without artifacts and in nanoseconds.
