OCT advances promise endoscopic, image-guided therapies
Jan. 29, 2009
BOSTON, MA, USA--At Massachusetts General Hospital's Wellman Center for Photomedicine and Harvard University, scientists have been working to apply endoscopic optical-coherence tomography (OCT) technology to identify cancer in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. It is hoped that OCT's high-resolution, cross-sectional imaging will allow for earlier detection of cancerous and precancerous lesions and offer new opportunities for early intervention.
