Tornado Medical Systems (Toronto, ON, Canada) has partnered with the Institute of Microelectronics (IME), a research institute of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR; Singapore) to commercialize nanospectrometers for optical coherence tomography (OCT) applications.

The collaboration will provide the first commercial nanospectrometers for OCT applications. Developing such on-chip spectrometers will meet the needs of the current OCT market and open up new commercial opportunities for low-cost, high-performance OCT applications.

The partnership coincides with Tornado's recent acquisition of the spectroscopy assets of Arjae Spectral (also of Toronto), helping the company to streamline its commercialization efforts, says Stefan Larson, Ph.D., president and chairman of Tornado Medical Systems.
