April 9, 2008, Denville, NJ--Lantis Laser has entered into a strategic relationship with Axsun Technologies to incorporate Axsun's patented swept-source optical coherence tomography (OCT) technology into Lantis' dental imaging systems.

Lantis has exclusive rights for the OCT dental application under its license agreements with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (exclusive) and LightLab Imaging (non-exclusive). Its proprietary OCT Dental Imaging System provides real-time, high-resolution chairside imaging of dental tissue for the early detection of tooth decay and other oral diseases, at a resolution of up to 10 times that of x-ray.

Lantis is currently in Phase 2 development of its OCT Dental Imaging System and, due to this significant upgrade in technology, other components in its OCT Dental Imaging System need to be upgraded. As a result of this major system upgrade, full market introduction of the OCT System is now projected to be in the first quarter of 2009, a change from the originally anticipated market introduction date of third quarter 2008.

"Swept-source OCT engines that are high-performance and manufacturable in high volume are something we have sought for many years while developing the dental application of OCT," says Stan Baron, president and CEO of Lantis. "The technology has now caught up with the application, allowing us to offer a much higher system performance level in terms of scanning speed, resolution and in field reliability. At the same time, the cost effectiveness of the integrated MEMs OCT engine enables us to meet the targeted price to the dentist of approximately $25,000. With a worldwide market size estimated at 200,000 systems, the potential sales for Lantis are very significant."

"The application of our technology into the dental industry is very exciting as there is a very large potential customer base to purchase Lantis' OCT Dental Imaging System(tm), and we are geared up to supply this large market," adds Dale Flanders, CEO of Axsun.
