Live cell observation system from Carl Zeiss MicroImaging

Dec. 3, 2008
Cell Observer SD (SD = spinning disc) from Carl Zeiss MicroImaging (Jena, Germany) enables confocal observation and documentation of experiments on living cells over a long period of time and with high frame rates. The system fully integrates the CSU-X1 confocal scanning unit manufactured by Yokogawa Electric Corporation (Japan) and optimizes the unit's features. It enables imaging of very fast processes with optimum specimen protection and without bleaching effects.

Cell Observer SD enables imaging of very fast processes with optimum specimen protection and without bleaching effects. It targets research, particularly in molecular cell biology, developmental biology and neurobiology and live cell imaging in general.

The Cell Observer SD system and the entire line of incubation accessories from Carl Zeiss enable users to observe living specimens for hours without damaging them. All major incubation parameters such as temperature and CO2 content are saved automatically together with the image data.

The system promises convenient control, monitoring and documentation of the experiments. All settings are made via the AxioVision software. The software modules can be combined--from simple camera control, multichannel imaging to a special high-speed mode for maximum frame rates to the absolutely simultaneous operation of two cameras. Furthermore, it is possible to integrate other techniques such as fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP).

Zeiss guarantees artifact-free image acquisition even with the fastest frame rates. The streamlined interaction of the components ensures the best possible preservation of live cell samples.
