The event will comprise four major sessions. The introductory session, organized by Jacques Cochard of Tematys (Paris, France), will describe the technology and business landscape, discuss ways to fund biophotonics development, and explore the regulatory environment for medical devices.

Led by Fokko Wieringa, senior scientist, medical equipment at research firm TNO (The Netherlands) the second session will cover electronics and optics for point-of-care devices for chronic and infectious diseases. And Jürgen Popp, director, Institute of Photonic Technology (IPHT) Jena (Germany), will follow with a session focused on photonics components for medical imaging and microscopy.

The workshop will conclude with a series of presentations by EPIC members, led by Carlos Lee, director general of EPIC (Paris, France), that will explore unmet healthcare needs as opportunities for photonics technologies.
