Laser illumination can be used to illuminate any location 24 hours a day. This nighttime infrared image, taken at a private runway, was acquired at long range with a laser illuminator (right; visible daytime image from different perspective is shown at left). The target is 1.5 m wide by 0.5 m high. There was no moon and the sky was slightly overcast. The target was imaged at a range of 600 m by a charge-coupled-device camera with a 12.5- to 75-mm zoom lens set at 75-mm focal length.
