FIGURE 1. In a successful test of an intelligent awareness and machine learning system on the 4458 t. dwt Ro-Ro Ferry “Sunflower Gold” of Mitsui OSK Ltd. (MOL) sensors included the OPAL laser radar. The ship operates between Kobe and Oita in Japan, in the very congested waters of the strait of Kurishima, where small fishing vessels and nets complicate navigation especially at night.
