Bringing laser-based vision into the operating room, researchers developed Cancer Vision Goggles to provide hands-free, real-time NIR fluorescence guidance during surgery. The system combines dual camera imaging, fixed distance alignment, posture-dependent safety interlocks, wireless foot controls, and dynamic thresholding to support single operator use while maintaining consistent optical acquisition and direct visualization of the surgical field. Laboratory testing demonstrated 281 µm spatial resolution, a precisely enforced 50 cm working distance, and strong signal-to-background performance. The case study also highlights how Wavelength Electronics’ LD5CHA laser diode driver provided low noise, stable excitation for the 793 nm, 2 W NIR laser source, helping maintain consistent optical performance throughout the system.
