Diode-pumped parametric oscillator/laser simplifies lidar system
San Jose, CA--Direct diode-laser pumping of an optical parametric oscillator could make lidar-based petroleum exploration and pipeline inspection economically viable, according to a paper presented at Photonics West in February. Such recent advances in laser and optical-parametric-oscillator (OPO) technology may result in relatively lightweight mid-IR differential absorption lidar (DIAL) systems suitable for routine airborne operations, suggest authors A. R . Geiger and S. N. Prasad of LSen Inc.
