EDITORIAL

Once again, the USA demonstrates advanced-technology leadershi¥but drags its feet on the manufacturing front. This time, the technology is flat-panel displays (FPDs), a booming $11.5 billion market where the USA holds a miserable 3% share. And, despite the Clinton administration`s voluble claims to the contrary, it`s much too late for government programs to light a fire under US manufacturers.
