Lidar startup Scantinel Photonics secures Series A financing

May 27, 2021
The Series-A funding will help Scantinel Photonics to be able to further develop and commercialize its frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) lidar technology.

Lidar startup Scantinel Photonics (Ulm, Germany; a part of the Zeiss Ventures portfolio), which develops and produces frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) lidar sensors for the next-generation lidar systems for autonomous vehicles (AVs), has received growth financing through Scania Growth Capital (Södertälje, Sweden). FMCW lidar will help autonomous driving to achieve a breakthrough and, according to experts, could displace the currently used time-of-flight lidar systems from the market.

Scantinel Photonics FMCW lidar technology can measure distances to objects in the 300+ m range with a high level of integration and solid-state scanning, which is key for AVs.

The Series-A funding will help Scantinel Photonics to be able to further develop and commercialize its FMCW lidar technology.
