Ultrashort-pulse (USP) lasers, both picosecond and femtosecond, are available from a large number of manufacturers with new players entering the field at a rapid pace. The laser technology is very mature and, with so many different options available, picosecond and femtosecond lasers are being sold more on the basis of specifications, reliability, cost, and delivery than on some technical differentiator. This webcast will give an overview of the technology and highlight materials-processing applications of ultrashort-pulse lasers.
Ronald Schaeffer is an industry expert in the field of laser micromachining and was formerly Chief Executive Officer of PhotoMachining, Inc. He has been involved in laser manufacture and materials processing for over 25 years, working in and starting small companies. He is currently on the Editorial Advisory Board for and is a frequent blogger for Industrial Laser Solutions magazine. He is an advisor and past member of the Board of Directors of the Laser Institute of America. He is also the author of the textbook entitled, “Fundamentals of Laser Micromachining”. He has a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Lehigh University and did graduate work at the University of Paris.
