Holographic techniques permit imaging through scattering media

The hard-tissue-imaging capabilities of x-rays have yielded dramatic advances in medical diagnostics. Now researchers are developing spectrally resolved soft-tissue holographic imaging methods for medical applications ranging from the detection of cancerous tissue to the monitoring of chemical processes in the body. Such techniques could provide a powerful, noninvasive tool for medical diagnostics.
