Durham, NC--LED maker Cree, Inc. (Nasdaq: CREE) has created an experimental white-light LED that has a luminous efficacy of 254 lumens per watt. This figure exceeds Cree’s previous R&D industry record of 231 lumens per watt.
Elements of Cree’s SC³ technology platform (which is commercially available in Cree's XLamp LEDs) aided in achieving the R&D result, says Cree. The SC³ technology platform includes advanced silicon carbide technology, advances in LED chip architecture and phosphors, and a new package design.
Cree reports that the LED efficacy was measured at a correlated color temperature of 4408 K at standard room temperature and an electrical current of 350 mA.
