Conard has 25 years of science and technology editing and writing experience. He was formerly a staff member and consultant for government agencies such as the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority and the International Atomic Energy Agency, and engineering companies such as Bechtel.  He joined Laser Focus World in 1997 as senior editor, becoming editor in chief of WDM Solutions, which he founded in 1999.  In 2003 he joined Vision Systems Design as editor in chief, while continuing as contributing editor at Laser Focus World. Conard became editor in chief of Laser Focus World in August 2011.  He received his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, with additional studies at the Colorado School of Mines and Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.

Carrie has 11 years of experience in the publishing and media industry. She has been working with PennWell Technology Group magazines for nearly nine years, having been part of the editorial staffs at Solid State Technology, Microlithography World, Lightwave, Portable Design, CleanRooms, and Vision Systems Design (current). This is actually her second term on Laser Focus World, having worked previously as Assistant Editor. Carrie earned a BA in English Literature from Saint Anselm College (Manchester, NH) in 1999.

John has been covering the photonics industry at Laser Focus World  for more than 12 years and, as Senior Editor, enjoys serving as the magazine's technical resource. John graduated from Rutgers University with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and physics, and from the University of Rochester with a master's in optics. While at Rutgers, he helped construct an elementary-particle detector later installed at Cornell University, and carried out a research project on selective coatings for solar collectors.

Between degrees John worked at Exxon Research and Engineering, where he developed optical mounts used at Brookhaven National Laboratory's National Synchrotron Light Source. After college, he did R&D on multichannel optical-disk technology at Eastman Kodak, and subsequently spent 14 years developing optical systems in the photolithography industry.

Gail has nearly 20 years of marketing and engineering experience in the photonics and telecommunications industry. Before joining the staff at Laser Focus World six years ago, she held many product management and product marketing roles in the fiber-optics industry, most notably at Newport Corporation (Irvine, CA), Corning (Corning, NY), Photon Kinetics (Beaverton, OR), GTE (Waltham, MA), and Hughes (El Segundo, CA). During her marketing career, Gail published articles in WDM Solutions and Sensors magazine and traveled internationally to conduct product and sales training. Gail received her BS degree in physics, with an emphasis in optics, from San Diego State University in San Diego, CA in May 1986.

Lee is currently working on both Laser Focus World and BioOptics World magazines. She has seven years of editorial experience in the advanced technology and scientific research industries, including two years as the assistant editor of Advanced Packaging, Connector Specifier, and SMT magazines. She has also served as the editor for ALN Magazine and Forensic Magazine. Lee received her BA degree in English with a concentration in writing from Curry College (Milton, MA) in 2001.

David is an internationally recognized authority on industrial laser materials processing and has been actively involved in this technology for more than 30 years. His consulting business, Belforte Associates, serves clients interested in advanced manufacturing applications. David holds degrees in Chemistry and Production Technology from Northeastern University (Boston, MA). He conducted basic studies in material synthesis for high-temperature applications and has held increasingly important positions with companies involved with high-technology materials processing. He co-founded a company that introduced several firsts in advanced welding technology and equipment. David's career in lasers started with the commercialization of the first industrial solid-state laser and a compact CO2 laser for sheet-metal cutting. For several years, he led the development of very high power CO2 lasers for welding and surface treating applications. In addition to consulting, David is the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Industrial Laser Solutions magazine and contributes to other laser publications, including Laser Focus World.
