Northrop Grumman and CREOL, FPCE partner on next-generation photonic technologies
May 27, 2008--Northrop Grumman Corporation is forming a strategic research partnership with the University of Central Florida aimed at facilitating the co-development of advanced optic and photonic technologies. Under the five-year Master Sponsored Research and License Agreement, Northrop Grumman will provide financial support and engineering expertise to the Center for Research and Education in Optics and Lasers (CREOL) and the Florida Photonics Center of Excellence (FPCE).

Bordeaux, France site of first "Invest in Photonics" convention this winter
May 23, 2008--Bordeaux, France will be the site of the first international partnering convention "Invest in Photonics" on December 11 and 12, 2008. 150 experts from around the world will gather for the first time to seize a comprehensive perspective on the fast-developing business of photonics and will facilitate the meeting of development-funding-seeking small and medium enterprises, investors, and industrialists.

May 21, 2008--Harvard University (Cambridge, MA) professor Xiaoliang Sunney Xie is one of the founding fathers of single-molecule biophysical chemistry, specifically single-molecule enzymology; much of his research involves the use of lasers and microscopy.

Boeing fires laser aboard aircraft for the first time
May 20, 2008--Boeing has achieved a key milestone for the Advanced Tactical Laser (ATL) Advanced Concept Technology Demonstration program by firing a high-energy chemical laser aboard a C-130H aircraft in ground tests for the first time. The successful laser firing occurred May 13 at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico.
