Laser Product Highlights 2006 p3:

  • Spectroscopic reflectometer maps very large glass samples
June 20, 2006, Edison, NJ--Horiba Jobin Yvon has introduced a spectroscopic reflectometer capable of measuring the thickness of films deposited on large-area glass substrates up to 2.5 x 2.7 m in size. Based on spectroscopic reflectometry, the DigiScreen provides film thickness in less than one second.
  • Study demonstrates 25x improvement in 488-nm laser lifetime
June 15, 2006, San Jose, CA--The director of laser development at Picarro announced results of a reliability study covering their 488-nm cyan lasers that demonstrated a mean-time-to-failure, (MTTF) of 200,000 hours: a 25x improvement in reliability over argon ion lasers commonly used in instruments such as DNA sequencers, flow cytometers, microarray scanners and confocal microscopes.
  • Lumenera launches high-definition 2-megapixel camera
June 7, 2006, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada--Lumenera, a developer and manufacturer of high performance digital cameras and imaging solutions, has announced the release of a new high definition USB 2.0 digital camera aimed at industrial markets. The high resolution Lw290 camera is based on a new 1080P HD sensor, intended for high quality industrial, machine vision, military and medical imaging.
  • Kit prolongs service life of temporal phase-shifting interferometers
May 31, 2006, Tucson, AZ--A new upgrade kit from 4D Technology refurbishes and enhances temporal phase-shifting interferometers no longer supported by their manufacturers.
  • Sofradir debuts a megapixel 15-micron-pitch MCT IR detector
April 18, 2006, Orlando, FL--Sofradir (Grenoble, France) has unveiled a compact, high-definition, 1280- x 1024-pixel 15-micron-pixel-pitch third-generation MWIR detector at the SPIE Defense and Security Symposium (April 17-21, 2006). Dubbed the Jupiter, the molecular-beam-epitaxy mercury cadmium telluride (MBE/MCT) detector is TV-compatible. Jupiter operates in the 3- to 5-micron wavelength range.
  • Zecotek introduces rare-earth fine-oxide laser crystal
April 11, 2006, Vancouver, B.C., Canada--Zecotek has introduced a rare-earth fine-oxide (RFO) laser crystal that the company says has advantages over the widely used YAG crystal in solid-state lasers. The technology will shortly be the object of an international patent application, says Zecotek, which is based at the University of British Columbia.
  • Group4 Labs announces Ga-facing GaN-on-diamond wafer
April 6, 2006, Menlo Park, CA--Group4 Labs has announced a gallium (Ga)-facing gallium nitride (GaN)-on-diamond semiconductor water. The new 10 mm? Ga-facing wafer is the third product in the Xero Wafer family and shares the same proprietary technology that permits a single GaN layer to be atomically attached to a synthetic diamond substrate.
  • SSS Optical collaborates with Optics for Hire on gas sensors
March 30, 2006, Huntsville, AL--SSS Optical Technologies in partnership with Optics for Hire (Arlington, MA) is launching a GOVINDRA (Gas, Odor, Vapor Identification, Networking, Detection, Recording, and Annunciation) line of gas sensors based on patent pending opto-electronic technology.
  • Craic Technologies spectrophotometer tests lasers, LEDs
March 28, 2006, San Dimas, CA--Craic Technologies has introduced a UV-visible-NIR microspectrophotometer for laser and light-source development. The instrument is designed for nondestructive spectroscopic analysis on the microscopic scale including film thickness measurement and the measurement of emission.
