Fujitsu and Mitsui launch quantum dot laser venture
April 21, 2006, Tokyo, Japan--Fujitsu Ltd. (www.fujitsu.com) and Mitsui & Co., Ltd. ((www.mitsui.co.jp) announced that they have established a new optical device venture, QD Laser, Inc. (QDL), leveraging venture capital funding from both companies and Fujitsu's quantum dot laser technology.

April 18, 2006, Madison, WI--Alfalight has been awarded $4.7 million in funding from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in the agency's 18-month effort--entitled Architecture for Diode High Energy Laser Systems (ADHELS)--that aims to produce a multikilowatt diode-laser system.

JDSU acquires home networking test & measurement company
April 14, 2006, Milpitas, CA--JDSU announced an agreement to acquire Test-Um (Camarillo,CA), an industry-leading provider of home networking test instruments for the FTTx and digital cable markets. The acquisition, which creates new sales channels for Test-Um's home networking product portfolio and JDSU's existing set of field test instruments for broadband access networks, is expected to close in the current quarter. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Adaptive Optics Associates wins Northrop Grumman laser contract
April 14, 2006, Blackwood, NJ--Metrologic Instruments announced that the Advanced Optical Systems Division of its Adaptive Optics Associates (AOA; Cambridge, MA) subsidiary was awarded a contract from Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems (NGES; Baltimore, MD) related to the High-Precision Long-Range Laser Designator/Locator (HPLD) Program. This contract, with a total potential value of $6.5 million, supersedes a previously awarded and completed contract of $153,000.
