• e2v centre for electronic imaging opens at Brunel University
  March 22, 2005, Uxbridge, England--The e2v centre for electronic imaging (CEI), which will address shortages of critical science skills in the UK, has been officially launched. The CEI is a new research collaboration between Brunel University and e2v technologies (Chelmsford, England) that will concentrate on transforming R&D activity into new electronic imaging technology and identifying new applications for existing e2v imaging technology, as well as developing products for new markets.
• JDSU buys Lightwave Electronics for $65 million
  March 21, 2005, San Jose, CA--JDS Uniphase signed a definitive agreement to acquire Lightwave Electronics for $65 million in cash as part of JDSU's strategy to expand its solid-state laser product line.
• Trimble to acquire Apache Technologies
  March 21, 2005, Sunnyvale, CA--Trimble has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire privately held Apache Technologies (Dayton, OH) in an all-cash transaction. Apache designs, manufactures, and distributes professional laser products for construction leveling and alignment applications.
• Ball Aerospace expands testing capability for large-aperture optics
  March 18, 2005, Boulder, CO--Ball Aerospace & Technologies announced that its new Horizontal Collimator Assembly (HCA), which tests large telescope systems in a space-like environment, is now operational. The HCA facilitates the testing of optical systems with apertures up to 30 inches (0.76 meter) in diameter. Since the entire test facility and instrument are vibration isolated, risks associated with atmospheric turbulence and air-layering effects are eliminated.
• Intense appoints Graham Failes as new COO
  March 17, 2005, Blantyre, Scotland--Today, the optoelectronics solutions provider Intense announces the appointment of Graham Failes as Chief Operations Officer. Failes will take up his role in April 2005.
• Matrox Imaging announces $3.3 million purchase order
  March 17, 2005, Dorval, Quebec, Canada--Matrox Imaging announced today that it has received a $3.3 million purchase order from a North American manufacturer of inspection systems for the semiconductor industry.
• Imalux moves into commercial mode with OCT

• Welsh Technium OpTIC officially opens
  March 14, 2005, St. Asaph, Wales--A new center to encourage the growth of the opto-electronics industry in Wales has been officially opened by Andrew Davies, Welsh Assembly Economic Development and Transport Minister. But some politicians are questioning if the overall investment will pay off.
• Dynasil acquires Optometrics LLC
  March 10, 2005, West Berlin, NJ--Dynasil Corporation of America, fabricator of optical blanks from synthetic fused silica, fused quartz, and other optical materials for the semi-conductor, laser, space and optical components industries has completed the purchase of Optometrics LLC of Ayer, MA.
• Id Quantique and Becker & Hickl partner on single photon detection
  March 10, 2005, Geneva, Switzerland and Berlin, Germany--Id Quantique (Geneva, Switzerland) and Becker & Hickl (Berlin, Germany) have entered into a strategic partnership to cooperate in the field of single photon detection for life science applications.
