• Diffraction limited aspheric optics enhance lidar
  Kenley, UK, June 2, 2004--Optical Surfaces Ltd. has supplied the key focusing optics for a new low-cost fiber lidar system recently launched by QinetiQ Ltd. (Farnborough, UK) for making local wind speed measurements in front of wind turbines.
• NTERA launches NanoChromics for direct drive displays
  Dublin Ireland, June 3, 2004--NTERA has announced the launch of its NanoChromics Display (NCD) technology for direct drive display applications with commercial product availability in Q4 2004.
• Santec introduces ultrabroadband light source
  Komaki, Japan, May 25, 2004--Santec, a manufacturer of fiber-optic components, subsystems, and optical instruments has launched a new ultra-wideband light source. The UWS-1000 is based on a newly developed fiber laser architecture and generates "supercontinuum light" with an ultra-broad optical spectrum from 1200 to 2000 nm.
• Newport Launches Several New Products in First Quarter
  Irvine, CA, May 20, 2004--Newport Corporation introduced several new products during the first quarter of 2004. "Aggressive product development is a critical part of our overall strategy for maintaining leadership in the strategic markets we serve," said Robert G. Deuster, chairman and chief executive officer.
• iolon Introduces Field-Deployable, Swept-Frequency Laser
  San Jose, CA, May 12, 2004--iolon has introduced a swept-frequency laser (SLE) with more than 55 nm of mode-hop-free continuous tuning, greater than 10 mW output power, and excellent single mode purity. The SLE is based on iolon's Telcordia-qualified widely tunable laser module and delivers field-proven telecom-grade reliability.
• Agilent introduces extra-bright InGaN LEDs
  Palo Alto, California, May 10, 2004--Agilent Technologies has launched a series of extra-bright InGaN (indium gallium nitride) LEDs targeted for the outdoor electronic sign and signals market.
• Dalsa announces a 12,000-pixel line-scan camera
  Boston, MA, May 5, 2004--At the Vision Show East, Dalsa Corporation (Waterloo, Ont., Canada) announced its development of the world's first 12,000-pixel line-scan sensor and camera. The new camera architecture is in production and will be commercially available to general markets in late 2004.
• Diode Array Detectors Target Liquid Chromatography
  PALO ALTO, CA, April 29, 2004--Varian has announced two new diode array detectors (DADs) for HPLC (high performance liquid chromatography) applications in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, environmental, food-beverage, and other industries.
• ASL Introduces Tether-free Eye Tracker
  Bedford, MA, April 28, 2004-- Applied Science Laboratories (ASL) has introduced a lightweight, tether-free, wearable eye-tracking system designed to be worn by an active subject when total freedom of movement is required and when video with cursor overlay is the desired output. The eye tracking optics are extremely lightweight and unobtrusive, and the recording device is small enough to be worn on a belt.
• Furukawa introduces blue laser for biomed
  Tokyo, Japan, April 26, 2004--Furukawa Electric has released a 488-nm single-harmonic generation (SHG) blue laser suitable for bioinstrumentation and medical equipment.
