DenseLight Passes Telcordia Tests
Singapore, January 22, 2004. DenseLight Semiconductors' superluminescent LEDs (SLEDs) have passed Telcordia's GR-468-CORE Requirements. The company has completed the vigorous 7-month testing process that includes mechanical, endurance, 5000-hour accelerated-ageing and ripple-ageing tests. The results validate the inherent reliability of DenseLight's SLEDs, which are then packaged in industrially established form-factors.

APA Discontinues Optics Manufacturing
Minneapolis, January 21, 2004. APA Optics has discontinued its optics manufacturing operations, eliminating five positions at its Blaine, Minn., facility, and has consolidated its fiber optics communications activities in Blaine by eliminating three positions and retraining personnel in Aberdeen to support operations of its subsidiary, APA Cables & Networks (APACN), in Plymouth, Minn.

The Society for Information Display will hold its Annual Symposium, Seminar, and Exhibition at the Washington State Convention & Trade Center in Seattle from May 23 to 28, 2004. Sanyo Commissions 200kW Solar Installation
San Diego, CA, January 15, 2004. Sanyo North America has commissioned two new solar installations that will generate 200kW of clean, electrical power. The two solar arrays, a 150kW PowerLight PowerGuard system atop the roof of SANYO's U.S. headquarters, and a 50 kW PowerLight PowerTracker on the adjacent carport structure, will generate enough electricity during the daytime to power over 200 homes.

Nanotec 300 Buys Ultrathin Film Metrology
Flanders, NJ, January 13, 2004. Rudolph Technologies has sold a S300-ultra metrology system to the CEA-Leti Advanced R&D Center, Grenoble, France, for the Nanotec 300 program, a consortium involving ST Micro, Philips, and Motorola. Nanotec 300 focuses on developing the 300 mm processes that will transfer to production at the 45 nm technology node. Nanotec 300 will use the S300-ultra for measuring the ultrathin transparent films required for advanced gates.

EXFO Reports 11.4% Growth Quarter-Over-Quarter
Quebec City, Canada, January 8, 2004. EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering reported sales growth of 11.4% and a 5.2% improvement in gross margin for the first quarter ended November 30, 2003. Sales reached $16.0 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2004 compared to $14.3 million in the fourth quarter of 2003 and $17.7 million in the first quarter of 2003. The net book-to-bill ratio increased to 1.06 in the first quarter of fiscal 2004 from 0.98 in the previous quarter.
