• Coherent Offers High-Power DPSS Green Laser
  Santa Clara, CA, March 4, 2004. Coherent has introduced the Verdi-V18, a diode-pumped, solid-state laser that delivers more than 18W of 532 nm output, making it ideal for high-power, continuous-wave (CW) materials processing and scientific applications.
• Microfabrica Secures $15 Million Funding
  Burbank, CA, March 3, 2004. Microfabrica has closed $15 million in Series B financing, led by international venture capital firm WK Technology Fund. All of Microfabrica's existing investors also participated in this round, including DynaFund Ventures, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Partech International, ChevronTexaco Venture Equities, Zone Ventures and Atherton Venture Partners
• Computer Aided Modeling of DPSS Cavities
  Cranfield, UK, March 2, 2004. Pro-Lite Technology has released PC software developed by LAS-CAD GmbH to instantaneously model the complex thermal lensing processes in laser resonators. This software can simulate all the interactions between thermal and optical parameters to show modal patterns, cavity stability and provide the laser engineer with real-time tools saving months of laboratory development time especially with diode pumped solid state laser design
• Optical Thickness Measurement and Control Systems
  Livingston, Scotland, March 1, 2004. Scalar Technologies Ltd have announced the first in a family of advanced, in-line measurement systems targeted at process automation and control. The systems are based on advanced optical techniques and are used for measuring the thickness of transparent films and coatings.
• Optical Fiber Market Still Out of Balance
  Providence, RI, February 27, 2004. The world's last optical fiber shortage ended in 2001 when demand peaked at 119 million km. Two years later in 2003 fiber shipments to cable manufacturers dropped by 47% to 63.5 million km. On the other hand, worldwide fiber-making capacity only decreased by 10% to 145 million km, down from 161 million km in 2001.
• OEIC Maker Expands to Meet Demand
  Glasgow, UK, February 26, 2004. Optoelectronic chip maker Intense is expanding headcount and facilities at its UK semiconductor fabrication plant, to handle demand from new markets. The initial focus on the telecommunications sector has now broadened, with printing and defense markets now featuring heavily in the order book.
• Etalons for Advanced Interferometric Techniques
  Kenley, UK, February 25, 2003. The use of proprietary manufacturing techniques in a thermally stable production environment has enabled Optical Surfaces to establish itself as a leading supplier of ultra-high precision Fabry-Perot etalons for interferometric applications in spectroscopy, telecommunications and remote sensing.
• SUSS MicroTec Teams With IMEC for MEMS Packaging
  Saint-Jeoire, France, February 24, 2004. SUSS MicroTec has signed a Joint Development Program with IMEC, a nanotechnology research center. MEMS devices are set to have an enormous impact across the industrial spectrum - from biotechnology, through medical devices, process control to advanced mechanical systems.
• New 2004 NIST Reference Materials Catalog
  Gaithersburg, MD, February 23, 2004. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has announced the availability of its new, comprehensive 2004 Standard Reference Materials Catalog. NIST supplies industry, academia, government, and other users with over 1,300 reference materials of the highest quality and metrological value.
• High-Power Laser Diode with Volume Bragg Grating
  Cranfield, UK, February 20, 2004. Pro-Lite Technology has released preliminary information on the Axcel Photonics LambdaLok high-power laser diode series encompassing a Volume Bragg Grating to ensure narrowed line-widths and 30 times improved wavelength stability with temperature compared to raw diodes.
