• Polatechno and Moxtek roll out capacity expansion plans
  Orem, UT, May 21, 2004--Polatechno Co., Ltd. (Niigata, Japan) and Moxtek Inc. have announced the first phase of their capacity-expansion plans for one of their products--polarizers and polarizing beamsplitters for liquid-crystal projection displays.
• Optical Networking Sales Dip in First Quarter
  South San Francisco, CA, May 19, 2004--The global optical networking market fell 7 percent in the first quarter of 2004, to $2.2 billion, according to market research and advisory services firm RHK.
• Continuum and EdenTree form optical test partnership
  San Jose, California, May 20, 2004--Continuum Photonics and EdenTree Technologies have formed a strategic partnership to develop fully integrated solutions for optical test.
• ORA Wins $1.7 Million for advanced lithography modeling
  Pasadena, CA, May 14, 2004--The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST; Boulder, CO) has awarded Optical Research Associates (ORA) a $1.7 million Advanced Technology Program (ATP) award for the development of advanced-lithography-modeling algorithms.
• Joint venture focuses on extraterrestrial electro-optics
  HAIFA, Israel and BREMEN, Germany, May 13, 2004--The international defense company Elbit Systems, Ltd., through its subsidiary Elop Electro-Optics Industries, Ltd., has announced plans to set up a joint venture with the space technology company OHB-System AG for common development and marketing of electro-optical systems and infrared payloads, suitable for deployment in space and for Unmanned Airborne Vehicles.

• Molecular Imprints announces $36m joint venture
  Austin, TX, May 6, 2004--Molecular Imprints, a manufacturer of step and flash imprint lithography (S-FIL) equipment, has announced funding of a $36M joint venture proposal by the National Institute of Standards and Technology - Advanced Technology Program (NIST-ATP) for the development of nano-imprint lithography at key semiconductor roadmap nodes.
• UK Photonics Cluster event to focus on market trends
  Birmingham, England, April 27, 2004--The UK Photonics Cluster is partnering with Laser Focus World and Industrial Laser Solutions magazines to present a day-long seminar on the global market for lasers and laser-based systems, May 7, 2004, at Aston Science Park. • BTG makes available a chalcogenide laser for license

• Nichia and Sony cross-license blue laser-diode patents
  Tokyo, Japan, April 23, 2004--Nichia Corporation and Sony Corporation have come to an agreement on the cross licensing of blue-violet laser-diode (LD)-related patents for optical-disc use.
