NDK Selects EPSI To Manufacture Crystal Growing Systems
Haverhill, MA, January 29, 2003. EPSI (Engineered Pressure Systems, Inc.) was selected by NDK Crystal, Inc. to design and manufacture eight hydrothermal crystal growing systems, and supporting auxiliary equipment for a new plant in Belvidere, IL. EPSI has custom designed the vessels to integrate with NDK's existing synthetic quartz crystals manufacturing operation

ZBD and Varitronix to Develop Zenithal Bistable Displays
Hong Kong, January 28, 2003. ZBD Displays(ZBD)and Varitronix International have announced an agreement for the collaborative development of ZBD's Zenithal Bistable display technology. Under the agreement, ZBD and Varitronix will collaborate on the design and specification of equipment to fabricate displays incorporating ZBD's technology on Varitronix's existing STN production lines.

Optical Modulator Market Forecast Published
San Mateo, CA, January 27, 2003. According to ElectroniCast's new market study, North America led global consumption of optical modulators in 2002, with a 40 percent relative market share. Global consumption value will increase at a strong pace of 38 percent per year over the next five years, from $266 million in 2002 to over $1.3 billion in 2007, with rapidly rising quantity growth offset by falling average prices.

Survey Finds Laser Market to Grow 12%

The laser market is expected to grow 12% in 2003, reaching total sales of $4.8 billion, according to the latest findings of the annual Laser Focus World marketplace survey (see Optoelectronics Report, Jan. 1, 2003). This is a welcome change from the 24% decline the industry experienced between 2001 and 2002.
