• Elliot Scientific purchases Martock Design
  Harpenden, Herts., U.K., March 4, 2003. Elliot Scientific has completed the acquisition of all the issued share capital of Martock Design Ltd., Martock, Somerset, England.Elliot Scientific is a major distributor of Laser, Fiber-Optic, Mechanical Components, Optics and Cryogenic products within the UK.
• Tunable Laser Multi-Source Agreement Signed
  FREMONT, SANTA CLARA, SAN JOSE, CA; OXFORDSHIRE, UK, March 3, 2003. iolon Inc., Intel Corporation, Bookham Technology and Santur Corporation have joined forces to form a Multi-Source Agreement (MSA) for tunable lasers. The MSA is based on the Optical Internetworking Forum's (OIF) tunable laser implementation agreement (IA) that was published in November, 2002. The OIF IA is supported by more than 20 companies, including system vendors, component manufacturers and chip vendors
• Reference Flats for High-precision Applications
  Kenley, Surrey, UK, March 3, 2003. Working with high stability materials including glass, zerodur and silica, Optical Surfaces Ltd. is able to supply reference flats for high precision applications including astronomy, laser beam steering and optical flatness testing.
• Bush Appoints Morgan as Vice Chairman of White House Panel
  WASHINGTON, March 3, 2003.Applied Materials announced that James C. Morgan, chairman and chief executive officer, has been appointed Vice Chairman of the President's Export Council (PEC), by President Bush. The PEC is the premier national advisory body on international trade. Mr. Morgan and other council members were sworn in during a White House ceremony.
• Ti-Sapphire Laser Offers Narrow Line Width
  Bohemia, NY, February 28, 2003. The TU Series of Ti:Sapphire lasers from Photonics Industries International provide broad tuning from 700 to 1000nm, and 500 to 193nm and operate at high repetition rates up to 10kHz, while providing millijoules of energy with a very narrow line width.
• NP Photonics Awarded SBIR Phase II Contract
  Tucson AZ, February 28, 2003. NP Photonics has been awarded a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract by the Missile Defense Agency (MDA). Worth $750,000 over the next two years, the MDA SBIR contract will support further development of NP Photonics' multimode-pumped, monolithic gain array.
• European Telecom Component Supplier Debuts At OFC
  Boston, MA, February 28, 2003. UK-based LA Techniques, a European supplier of low cost pattern generators for the fiberoptic telecom component industry, is exhibiting for the first time at this month's OFC show in Atlanta, where it will be showcasing its range of pulse pattern generators, data driver amplifiers and related components
• Adept Technology Selected For 300mm Platform
  San Jose, CA,February 28, 2003. Yield Engineering Systems Inc. (YES) of San Jose, CA has selected Adept Technology to develop a new 300mm process tool platform that will fully automate its vacuum cure oven process. The YES-450PBX4-300 platform will utilize the Adept SmartController CS controller, AdeptSix 6-axis robot and the Adept SmartModule linear modules that will all link via Adept's unique SmartServo FireWire based distributed network
• India: World's Fourth Largest Fiber Market
  Providence RI, February 27, 2003. Fiber deployment in India has surged over the past two years, according to a new KMI report, Single-mode Optical Fiber & Cable in India. Following India's adoption of its "New Telecom Policy" in 1999, domestic demand for optical fiber and cable increased dramatically.
• Bookham Technology Has Big Plans for OFC
  Oxfordshire, UK, February 26, 2003. Bookham Technology plc, boosted by its recent acquisition of the optical components business of Nortel Networks, appears at next month's OFC (Optical Fiber Communication) conference and exhibition in Atlanta, Georgia (March 23-28) as one of the optical components industry's top three companies.
