The National Electronics Manufacturing Initiative (NEMI), an industry-led consortium focused on strengthening the North American supply chain, will present findings from the optoelectronics chapter of its 2002 roadmap and discuss the consortium's optoelectronics initiatives at two industry venues this spring
  • EXFO Receives 1.6M Order from Network Service Provider
    Quebec City, Ca., March 25, 2003. EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. has received a $1.6 million order from a prominent Tier-1 network service provider (NSP) for predominantly protocol-layer test equipment. The NSP purchased 2.5 Gb/s and 10 Gb/s SONET/SDH testers as well as optical time domain reflectometers (OTDRs), which are contained inside EXFO's best-of-class FTB-400 field-testing platform, and optical loss test sets to ensure the integrity of its high-speed optical networks

    Montreal, Can., March 24, 2003. LxSix Photonics has begun shipping products and providing services to the telecom industry. This marks the official market debut of LxSix as well as the full-scale manufacturing phase of the Montreal based company only one year after it was created.
  • NanoVia to Help Develop CA Legislation on Ballistic ID
    Londonderry, NH, March 19, 2003. NanoVia, LP has agreed to assist the State of California in writing its state ballistic identification legislation. NanoVia's patented ballistic tagging technology, NanoTag, is slated to be a key component. A number of States' Departments of Justice have expressed an immediate and enthusiastic interest in evaluating the technology, as have several federal agencies

    Campbell CA, March 21, 2003. DenseLight Semiconductors Private Limited has announced its incorporation in the United States and the opening of a new office in Campbell, California. Bill Diamond, DenseLight's CEO, will direct US operations out of this new location. The US office will allow DenseLight to better serve its significant customer base in North American and Europe
  • Florida Commits $10M to Photonics Research
    Orlando, FL, March 20, 2003. The state Board of Education on Tuesday approved spending $10 million to establish the Florida Photonics Center of Excellence at the University of Central Florida. The board's approval followed a recommendation by Gov. Jeb Bush's Emerging Technology Commission that ranked UCF's proposal at the top of a list of three research "centers of excellence" to be established at state universities.
  • WDM Solutions and Nikkei Electronics to Co-sponsor Fiber Optics Forum
    Tokyo, Japan, March 20, 2003. Nikkei Electronics magazine and WDM Solutions magazine announced plans to co-sponsor the Second Annual Fiber Optics Forum July 10-11 at the Tokyo Conference Center. The two-day forum will focus on optoelectronic technology and applications for telecommunications, information technology and manufacturing, plus market trends.
  • Ford Picks Leica Laser Tracker
    Norcross, GA, March 14, 2003. Ford Motor Company has selected Leica's laser tracking systems for inspection and measurement operations in Ford's production plants. Ford has purchased eight Leica Laser tracking systems to form the metrology foundation for a variety of manufacturing applications from assembly to tooling processes. Financial terms were not disclosed.

  • Picolight Partners with PEMSTAR to Increase Manufacturing Capacity
    BOULDER, Colo., March 13, 2003. Picolight has entered into a manufacturing partnership with PEMSTAR. The partnership with PEMSTAR enables Picolight to seamlessly expand the company's manufacturing capacity for its Accelar and Extensus fiber-optic transceivers for enterprise and metro/access markets.
