• Optoelectronics Marketplace Seminar Set For January
  Nashua NH - Opportunities for optoelectronic products in security, materials processing, medicine, lighting, and telecom will be the focus of the 2003 Laser Focus World Marketplace Seminar, scheduled to be held January 27 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, CA. As usual, the seminar will present the findings of the annual Laser Focus World review and forecast, providing expanded market data and analysis made available only to seminar attendees.
• UNC Center for Optoelectronics to Hold Symposium
  Charlotte NC, October 25, 2002 -- The Center for Optoelectronics and Optical Communications at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte will host its first symposium on November 7. Since 1995, optoelectronics researchers at UNC Charlotte have disclosed 18 inventions, licensed 15 products to industry and created three spin-off companies.
• Lynx Photonic Networks Moves Into China Market
  Calabasas Hills, CA, October 23, 2002 -- Lynx Photonic Networks has entered the China market and last week participated at the Asia Pacific Optical Conference with their newly appointed distributor, Luster Lightwave. Evaluations of Lynx switches are already scheduled with key Chinese telecommunications systems vendors.
• Opto Speed Signs Distribution Deal with EL-GEV
  Ruschlikon, Switzerland, October 22, 2002, -- Opto Speed, a developer and manufacturer of high-value added optoelectronic modules for communications, test & measurement, medical and defense markets, announced today the beginning of a distribution agreement with EL-GEV Electronics Ltd., an Israeli distributor of electronic and optoelectronic components and subassemblies.
• PennWell Sponsors Young Investigator Award
  Nashua, NH, -- The Young Investigator Award, given in memory of Heather Williamson Messenger, former executive editor of Laser Focus World, is awarded annually for the best paper presented by a young researcher who has graduated within five years of the Photonics West Conference. The award consists of a cash prize and publication of the winning paper in Laser Focus World.
• Danaher Acquires Dover Instrument Corporation
  Salem, NY, October 18, 2002 -- Danaher Corporation has acquired Dover Instrument Corporation in a transaction completed late in September. Dover will become part of the Danaher Motion Group, a business platform that consists of many leading brands in the North American and European markets.
• Excel Technology Acquires Continuum
  East Setauket NY, October 16, 2002 -- Excel Technology, Inc. announced today its wholly-owned subsidiary, Excel Continuum Corporation, has acquired the assets and business of the Scientific Division of Hoya Photonics Inc., d/b/a Continuum, a California Corporation, and its foreign subsidiaries located in Germany, France and Japan.
• StockerYale Awarded Contract for Custom Lasers
  Salem, NH, October 15, 2002 -- StockerYale, Inc. has been awarded a contract from BAE SYSTEMS to supply custom-designed thermoelectrically cooled lasers for their Advanced Threat Infrared Countermeasures (ATIRCM) system.
• EXFO Completes Acquisition of gnubi communications
  Quebec City, Canada, October 10, 2002 -- EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. has completed its previously announced acquisition of the assets of gnubi communications, L.P., a supplier of multi-channel telecom and datacom testing solutions for system manufacturers.
• Sensors Unlimited Purchases Assets from Finisar
  Princeton, NJ, October 8, 2002 -- Sensors Unlimited will purchase certain assets and accept certain liabilities from Finisar Corporation's Sensors Unlimited subsidiary for $6.1 million in cash. The new company will assume the name "Sensors Unlimited" and the existing management team and employees will remain in place
